two.1.4) Short description

Property Services undertake, as part of the management of trees risk, regular inspections of all trees on the Hampshire County Council (HCC) estate land, the corporate estate, and schools. Inspections are also carried out on behalf of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and Isle of Wight (OPCC) and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Services (HIWFRS).

As part of the inspection programme, it is often necessary to undertake remedial works to trees to ensure they remain safe e.g. removing dead branches or limbs or felling dead or dying trees. Occasionally work may have to be done to resolve a nuisance case, for example tree branches coming into contact with a neighbour's property, or where there is a substantial safety risk as was recently the case with a group of trees adjacent to a main rail line.

HCC do not however, have a policy of active intervention for tree management, and except in a very few cases, the majority of work is of a reactive nature.
