Description
Aston requires the provision of a Contractor(s) to provide waste management services for the following Lots:
Lot 1 Core Waste Collections
Lot 2 Hazardous and Chemical Waste (Laboratory)
Lot 3 Hazardous and Chemical Waste (Non-Laboratory)
Lot 4 Clinical and Pharmaceutical
Commercial tool
Establishes a framework
Total value (estimated)
- £1,200,000 excluding VAT
- £1,500,000 including VAT

- Possible extension to 30 July 2031

Lot 1. Core Waste Collections
Description
Aston requires a Contractor to provide collection and associated services for the
following waste streams which may include but are not limited to:
• General Waste
- Non-recyclable plastics,
- Contaminated materials,
- Broken items not suitable for recycling, and
- Mixed materials that cannot be separated
• Dry Mixed Recyclables

- Soft plastics,
- Rigid plastics
- Empty packaging material, and
- Clean food packaging
• Food Waste
- Cooked and uncooked food
- Fruit and vegetable peelings
- Bakery waste
- Dairy and meat scraps, and
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
• Paper and Cardboard
- Non-confidential office paper,
- Printed materials,
- Cardboard packaging,
- Envelopes, and
- Notebooks
• Glass Waste
- Clear and coloured glass bottles,
- Glass jars, and
- Beverage containers
• Green Waste
- Grass clippings,
- Leaves and branches,
- Plant trimmings, and
- Weeds and other garden waste
15.02 Where required, the Contractor shall provide all final collection receptacles (bins, skips,
etc) are on a lease basis and shall not purchase by Aston.
15.03 Aston University will outline window of time for collections and the contractor will be
permitted to determine the optimal time(s) for waste collection within Aston's approved
window, provided this is conducted within agreed operational hours, reduces collection
cost and does not disrupt University activities.
15.04 The Contractor shall ensure that waste bins are cleaned and sanitised following
emptying, to maintain hygiene and prevent odours. Followed by a comprehensive
cleaning of all food waste bins shall be carried out on a quarterly basis, or at Aston
University's request, whichever is more frequent

Lot 2. Hazardous and Chemical Waste (Laboratory)
Description
Aston requires a Contractor to provide the following:
• Unchlorinated solvent waste disposal service.
• Chlorinated waste disposal service.
• Unchlorinated Acidic waste disposal service
• Chlorinated Acidic waste disposal service
• Aqueous waste disposal service
• Pyrolysis waste disposal service
• Powder waste disposal service
• PFA waste disposal service
• Oil waste disposal service.
• Containers to store waste listed above
• Small chemical bottle waste
• Any other chemical hazardous waste not listed above
8.02 The Contractor shall insure all items supplied under the Contract whilst on Aston's
premises

Description
Aston requires a Contractor to provide collection and associated services for the
following waste streams which may include but are not limited to:

- Untreated timber
- Wooden furniture components
- Pallets and offcuts
- Plywood and chipboard (if uncontaminated)
• Metal Waste
- Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap
- Metal fixtures and fittings
- Sheet metal

• Hardcore
- Bricks and rubble
- Concrete fragments
- Tiles and ceramics
- Stone and aggregate waste
• Workshop and Grounds Maintenance Waste
- Packaging from landscaping supplies
- Empty containers from fertilizers or treatments

• Batteries
- Single-use batteries (alkaline, lithium)
- Rechargeable batteries (NiMH, Li-ion)
- Button cell batteries
- Battery packs from equipment
• Fluorescent Bulbs/LEDs
- Fluorescent tubes

- LED bulbs and strips
- Light fittings containing LEDs
• Aerosol/Pressurised containers
- Empty or partially used aerosol cans

Description
Aston requires a Contractor to provide the following:
• Eurobins to store waste
• Incineration Bins
• Yellow Bags
8.02 The Contractor shall insure all items supplied under the Contract whilst on Aston's
premises.
8.03 Bins and vending machines shall not be required to be purchased by Aston and shall be
installed on a lease basis.

Following an initial evaluation of the ITT stage, it is anticipated that a shortlist of the top 2 highest scoring tenderers from stage 1 will proceed to stage 2 of the Competitive Flexible Procedure to present.
