Description

Continued access to The Royal Marsden Manual Online (RMM) is vital for NHS Wales, ensuring secure, up-to-date clinical guidance since its introduction in 2023. The current licence expires on 22nd March 2026. Without this resource, NHS Wales staff would need to rely on physical library purchases, increasing costs and reducing timely access to essential evidence-based information.

The Royal Marsden Manual Online (RMM) was developed by clinical nurse experts at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and is the only comprehensive digital resource for standardised adult nursing procedures. Institutional access is available solely via the online platform, as e-Book or perpetual licence options are no longer offered.

The e-Library also proposes adding the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Manual of Children and Young People's Nursing Practices as an optional requirement. Created by the Great Ormond Street Hospital experts, it provides over 300 evidence-based paediatric procedures, complementing the RMM for those working across adult and paediatric care. NHS Wales currently holds a 7-month subscription to GOSH, which is ending February 2026.

Both RMM and GOSH are unique, expert-authored resources essential for maintaining consistent, evidence-based nursing practice across NHS Wales. Local or individual purchases of either manual are impractical and costly, as multiple e-Books or physical copies would be required for hospital-wide access.

Failure to renew these subscriptions would result in loss of two key national nursing resources. RMM is already embedded and endorsed by the Chief Nursing Officer for Wales, and GOSH is a new but complementary resource addition.
