The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is the ‘National Competent Authority’ for pollution response in the UK, meaning it has a legally delegated authority to perform this function. As part of this response the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s (MCA) holds counter pollution equipment and dispersant at several strategic locations around the UK. This equipment needs regular renewal and update to maintain operational capability and this case is part of the ongoing replacement program.
