Contensis is the current CMS used for the provision of intranet services within the University of Birmingham. The current agreement is due to expire on 30/11/2024. Over the next 12 months the University will be in the process of restructuring our entire website - both in terms of the user experience but also in terms of how that data is structured. As part of migrating to a new version of our current CMS we are overhauling the way the information is stored which will give us flexibility around the portability of the data in the future. Completing this phase of work will put us in a much better position in terms of being able to migrate to another CMS following a competitive tender exercise.

We are in the process of carrying out a rebrand and rebrand of components across the website. While these will be built into Contensis, we are building them into a digital design system in a CMS-agnostic way so that they are portable. In the future these can be moved to other websites/CMS platforms as needed. Completing this work before any market exercise has the potential to reduce implementation times should another CMS provider be identified. A two year contract extension will enable the University to prepare for a new contract to be in place from 01/12/2026.
