The SOSCARE system provides the ability to record clients and related referrals and assessments, and deploy and manage Social Work resources to provide appropriate services to clients. These clients come from areas including Childrens Services, Vulnerable Adults, Residential Care, Home Care, and Meals on Wheels, and the services provided include Fostering/Home Care (including payments), and Occupational Therapy (OT) and Hospital Social Work (SW) Referrals. The system has been extended recently using web-enabled functionality, to allow the capture of UNOCINI (Understanding the Needs of Children in Northern Ireland) information. This mirrors the manual forms, and also provides for entering family-related data once, where it can be copied forward from one sibling to another, saving time in the process.

The system is used by 13,000 users with average concurrency of 250. The database is stored on the Consolidated Server, based on twin data centres at BSO Regional Datacentres. The database is UNIDATA, and software used to access it is a combination of green screen application (SOSCARE) and web enabled application (UNOCINI).

Each Trust has its own database, but there is functionality to allow a) cross - Trust searching for Clients and their associated referrals and services and b) cross-Trust searching of a de facto Regional Child Protection Register.
