The University is seeking a seamless transition from the existing contract to the new contract. It is important that some launderettes on campus shall remain operational throughout the course of the works for use by any remaining students and conference delegates.

The new supplier should redecorate the launderette sites prior to installing new machines. These areas should have a modern appearance and be clean and welcoming.

The supplier is to install and maintain the laundry equipment while the University will be responsible for the supply of electricity, gas, water and waste water outfall.

The University currently has 78 washing machines and 80 dryers in 12 locations across the Canterbury campus to be replaced with new equipment.

In addition, a new student accommodation block with a launderette will be opening on Giles Lane in September 2025 which will also need to have laundry equipment installed.

The laundry equipment is currently a combination of electric and gas-fired machines and due to capacity limitations we will need to continue with this mix.

All launderettes must have at least one washer and dryer on ground level which can be accessed by a wheelchair user.

The work will need to be undertaken and completed within the specified timescales – between 16/06/25 to 13/09/25: the precise dates to be agreed, ensuring all launderettes are fully operational by 18/09/25 in time for the start of the new term.
