Newcastle City Council is the lead authority for the Tyne and Wear Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) facility, which is responsible for delivering real time traffic management on the highway network in order to assist in delivering the policy outcomes of the constituent highway authorities and Transport for the North East by contributing to the objectives of:

• A carbon neutral North East.

• Overcoming inequality and growing our economy.

• A healthier North East.

• Appealing sustainable transport choices.

• A safe and secure transport network.

Framework Structure -

Newcastle City Council are acting as lead authority in procuring a Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system for the region including, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

As part of this procurement, it is intended to equip buses throughout the region with on board units that will provide second by second positional data to the back-office system.
