NHS England, Highly Specialised Services (referred to as the Commissioner) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced providers to express interest for the Provision of Amyloidosis Networked Model of Care services, by responding to this opportunity as required and described within this published Competitive Process. NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands CSU (AGCSU) is acting as an agent for and on behalf of the Commissioner and is supporting the provider selection process.

Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein, called amyloid, in organs and tissues throughout the body. The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to work properly.

The key objectives of the Competitive Process are to commission a networked model of care for Amyloidosis services to establish four regional centres under this initial process. This is to ensure a good level of access in place that is able to meet the expected demand for the service. The eligibility criteria, lotting structure and scope of services are detailed in this document. Bidders must be located within the Lot geography for which they are bidding.

The regional centres are proposed to be in the:

Section six. Complementary information

six.3) Additional information

NHS England, Highly Specialised Services (referred to as the Commissioner) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced providers to express interest in delivering the Service(s), by responding to this opportunity as required and described in this document, and within the published Competitive Process. NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands CSU (AGCSU) is acting as an agent for and on behalf of the Commissioner and is supporting the provider selection process.

The Competitive Process is described within the documentation published. This Competitive Process has been advertised in accordance with the requirements of the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 (PSR).

Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein, called amyloid, in organs and tissues throughout the body.
The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to work properly.

Without treatment, this can lead to organ failure and death.

This disease presents predominantly in older people and is difficult to diagnose.

A highly specialised service (HSS) was commissioned for amyloidosis as it was;
• a rare disease
• challenging to diagnose outside of a specialist centre and
• patients nationally had poor outcomes with high levels of mortality.

The service has been commissioned for more than 20 years and there is a single national provider, the National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC); Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The increase in activity has meant that the service has outgrown its capacity and this proposal is to establish a network of providers in England. The network will enable the extension of expertise across the country and improve access for patients.

A networked model of care is proposed with four regional centres in the first wave, with an additional two to four to be commissioned later.

• Lot 1 - South West
• Lot 2 - Midlands
• Lot 3 - North West
• Lot 4 - North East and Yorkshire
Networks are a vehicle for specialty level collaboration between patients, providers and commissioners. They should have clear lines of accountability with Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) including providers and provider collaboratives, and to NHS England (NHSE) Regional Teams, to ensure local ownership, alignment and a local mandate.

Closing Date is 07th of November @ 17:00hrs
