The University of Birmingham is seeking to appoint a contractor(s) to ensure that hazardous waste is removed safely and with complete compliance of all hazardous waste and transport regulations whilst maintaining the highest possible standards of reliability. The successful contractor(s) will be expected to operate an effective service, with service levels maintained at specified, contractually binding performance levels in order to deliver a high level of customer satisfaction and achieve the aims of the University to increase recycling rates, reduce waste, and keep costs to a minimum.

To provide a service to dispose of materials arising from teaching and research, and the support of these activities, which are covered by the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005/894 and subsequent amendments. The contractor must be able to provide the University with timely and accessible management information. The contractor must be able to carry out collections at the appropriate frequency (Appendix A), and respond to emergency callouts, where necessary. The University regularly disposes of solvents, powders, contaminated glass, extras, and occasionally, explosives (this list is not exhaustive).
