two.1.4) Short description

Thames Water has planned for 570km to be delivered during AMP8 (with a further 1,000km in AMP9). The intention is to split this between water quality driven mains rehab (12km), burst driven mains rehab (108km) and whole DMA replacement (380km). This framework is intended to compliment the existing framework by providing supplementary support in addressing the evolving demands of the current framework in the next AMP and going forward.

The aim of the AMP8 Distribution Mains Renewal Programme is to replace the pipework (excluding new polyethylene) within the worst performing DMAs so that the amount of leakage in each of those areas is reduced.

The business drivers for the schemes are:

• Network resilience

• Leakage reduction

• Reduce risk of mains failure and customers interruptions

• Improving C-Mex measure

The objective of the Distribution Mains Renewal Programme is the structural renewal of targeted water distribution mains and all associated apparatus in the network to reduce bursts and leakage.

Renewal of the water mains network shall include but not be limited to:

• Optimisation, structural replacement or relining of distribution water mains within DMAs and bounded by district meters and the District Boundary Valves.

• Structural replacement of all service connections from the distribution mains to customer boundaries, including installation of a suitable boundary box.

• Replacement of all apparatus connected to the network including valves, hydrants, disinfection points, air valves, etc.

• Securing abandoned mains by cutting and capping. Removing surface covers, marker posts and plates of abandoned washouts, hydrants, and valves etc. so that only covers relating to live apparatus remain.
