The aim of the integrated health and wellbeing service is to provide greater positive health impact

on the lives of our residents, particularly targeting those who will most benefit through a service that motivates, empowers, and enables communities to achieve their best health and wellbeing and reduces the widening gap of health inequalities.

The service will predominantly cover the following lifestyle services, physical activity, weight management and cardiovascular disease.

The Authority would like to invite qualified and experienced providers to bid for this service.

The contract will be for an initial period of 4 years commencing on 1st April 2023 with an option of a further 3 years, in 12-month periods, at the sole discretion of the Council.

Lot 1 comprises several lifestyle services, including stop smoking, healthy eating and food poverty,

health and wellbeing coaching, a Support Club, and MECC+ training. Together, these services are

intended to help residents develop and maintain healthy lifestyle habits, support the prevention and

management of long-term conditions, and reduce health inequalities. Lot 1 further includes the

single point of access and digital technologies and is therefore instrumental in tying together the

four lots as a single, unified service that provides a seamless pathway between Lots 2, 3 and 4;

allowing them to provide their services as intended.

Physical inactivity is associated with 1 in 6 deaths in the UK and is estimated to cost the UK £7.4

billion annually (including £0.9 billion to the NHS alone). Physical activity plays an important role in preventing and managing health conditions, including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, musculoskeletal conditions, mental health problems, and some cancers. It can also have a positive effect on wellbeing and mood, by providing a sense of achievement or relaxation and release from daily stress.

The service will support this ambition and advocate for physical activity being in the forefront to improve and transform health and wellbeing in the borough.
