Newcastle University requires a video management system which is capable of meeting these high-level requirements. The ability to/for:
1. Integrate easily with existing University IT systems (timetabling, authentication and other Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) systems including the institutional VLE).
2. Capture audio, video and screen in University venues.
3. Schedule the automated capture and processing of approximately 1500 live teaching events each per week.
4. University staff and students to make recordings on their own devices including audio, video and screen capture.
5. Add captions to all recordings.
6. Creators to edit their recordings.
7. Manage viewer access to recordings.
8. Access analytics at a system and more granular level.
9. Access to appropriate technical and customer support during defined core business hours.
Newcastle University has in the region of 29,000 students and 6,600 staff, who may use the event capture system. During an academic year the University’s centrally supported event capture system currently records approximately 50,000 events receiving approximately 1,000,000 views. The requirement for the automated capture of live teaching and other events continues to be vital but in addition the demand for the ability for staff and students to easily create high quality video and audio resources themselves has increased and the chosen solution should facilitate this.
This PIN is designed to alert the market to our future intent to tender for this requirement and to give prospective bidders the opportunity to indicate if they have an existing off-the-shelf solution that is scalable to handle as a minimum the volume of student and staff users noted above, and that has been installed and running for at least 2 years in an educational establishment of equivalent size and scale. There may be an opportunity for presentations / visits to be arranged as part of this market research stage. The event capture system may be used across 3 campuses (Newcastle, Malaysia and Singapore) and we expect one solution to be provided to cater for all users. Suppliers that demonstrate they are capable of meeting our requirements may be invited to present virtually or in person at the University in August/September 2021. Test accounts for independent investigation / testing of system functionality may also be requested.
The contract reference is NU/1710.
The deadline for expressing an interest is 20.09.2020 at 14.00 BST. To do so, please email Dave Anderson at Dave.Anderson@ncl.ac.uk
