(Kirklees Council previously held the first Buyer's Day for engagement on 22nd April 2022.)

On the 22nd July Kirklees Council are hosting a buyer's day at Huddersfield Town Hall to meet the team and find out more about the Cultural Heart programme. Due to the venue capacity, the

This second buyers' day event will provide a high-level update on the RIBA Stage 2 design development, programme milestones, selection questionnaire, proposed tender strategy, and review of contractor feedback from the previous session.

Introduction

The Cultural Heart programme is part of Kirklees Council's Blueprint for Huddersfield Town Centre. Cultural Heart proposes to create a vibrant culture, art, leisure and nightlife, thriving

businesses, a great place to live, improved access and enhanced public spaces.

The Cultural Heart is a key Council led regeneration scheme in Huddersfield Town Centre. The overall site area is approx. 7.8 acres and consists of a Multi-Storey Car Park, the Queensgate Market (Grade II listed), the Library and Art Gallery (Grade II listed) and the Piazza shopping centre. In addition to the buildings, there is an extensive network of tunnels servicing the Piazza shopping centre and Queensgate Market. The scope of the regeneration programme is to redevelop the area in its entirety to provide the following core facilities:

Zone 1:

• Venue (2,200 capacity)

• New Multi-Storey Car Park

Zone 2:

• Food Hall

• Museum

• Gallery

• New Library

• Urban Park

• Improved links to the University

Objectives:

The Cultural Heart will act as a cultural hub for the town where families, visitors and residents can gather and enjoy leisure, arts and music, with activities spilling out into a high-quality public space. Crucially, this will bring new people into the town centre.

Main Contractor Procurement :

To deliver this ambitious development Kirklees Council is looking to appoint up to two main contractors, one for Zone 1 and one for Zone 2. These contractors should have the capability, capacity, and culture to work with the Council and the programme team on this specialist programme.
