The NHS Volunteer Responder programme was created as part of the emergency response to Covid-19 and was put in place to support clinically vulnerable people that were affected by shielding guidance and to support the NHS. The scheme was responsive to the emergent situation and evolved several times to provide additional roles as needed. Over 400,000 volunteers have been active throughout the life of the programme.
NHS England now wishes to retain this cohort to build on the volunteering legacy of Covid-19 ensuring that they, and new volunteers, are available to provide support in a range of ways that reduce pressure on differing parts of the NHS
To get this right the intention is to undergo a period of review, co-production and co-design of a new programme delivery model.
Expressions of interest are sought from all sectors, including VCSE organisations, to help determine the procurement strategy for this project
