Wigan Council is committed to meeting the aspirations and needs of older adults to enable people to live well in their own homes and communities. A fundamental part of this is the provision of the best possible support to help people to live happy and fulfilled lives, as independently as possible.
A handyperson service is a local organisation dedicated to helping people to live in safety and with dignity in their own homes. The service will work holistically to ensure that existing housing is fit for purpose and that vulnerable people, predominantly homeowners but not exclusively, are able to continue living independently as long as possible.
The services will offer older people extra help with small practical jobs to make their lives easier and safer around the home and discuss the person’s further aspirations or needs through a ‘Healthy Home Conversation’, that explores more broadly if further connections, signposting or support can be offered. The handyperson is a charged-for service using a fixed fee plus the cost of any materials used.
