The licences and their support are necessary for continued usage of the wide range of Microsoft products used by former PHE colleagues with the new addition of UKHSA colleagues.

The usage of Microsoft licences include those familiar to most users, such as Email; Word Processing; Spreadsheets and Skype Telephony. Those less familiar are licences for servers and security products used in IT but deploying files and services to all employees in a secure manner. Support services are essential to continue receiving updates during the 3-year period both for security and fixes to problems.

The strategy is to continue use of these products and take advantage of enhancements developed during the current period. The strategy is one of renewal and refresh and most users will notice no additional change.
There is no real alternative to Microsoft products readily available, any move away from Microsoft would be many years in the planning and execution.
