“Haven” specialist play & social centre for children & young people with learning difficulties incorporating indoor / outdoor play facilities and community Café. Erect 3 no. residential flats providing respite accommodation.

Children and Young people with learning disabilities need a place to ‘call their own’. Although many with learning disabilities can be meaningfully integrated in mainstream environments, a specialist place to play and socialise is crucial to their individual inclusion within their limited world. Providing such a place to develop potential and purposeful activity with fun, laughter, enjoyment, safety and protection is paramount in their development as they grow through their childhood and teenage years.

The Haven Project will provide a specially adapted indoor and outdoor play facility which will also include a community cafe. This cafe will encourage volunteering with adults from the community and also provide some supported places for young adults with LD. Three residential flats will also provide valuable overnight respite accommodation to give parents a much needed break from their caring responsibilities and the young people can still access the leisure facilities while on a short break.
