Advice can be consultative to schools involving training and upskilling staff to manage children’s difficulties; provision of goal-oriented, individualised therapy programs to increase functional independence; group therapy; and 1:1 therapy sessions, with an emphasis on involving caregivers and school staff in sessions to develop their ability to independently support the child, within their natural context. The OT team will also where appropriate provide assessment of equipment to maximise independence where necessary. This is achieved by providing training and support for schools to develop their skills in working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties, carrying out work with individual or a group of pupils where appropriate and working with families to understand and support their child’s needs.

Each school is allocated a “link” SLT. Schools are allocated a specific number of days SLT resource for the academic year based on several factors including the population of the school, numbers of children with identified need and demographic factors. SLTs contribute to EHCP and will follow the local NHS providers packages of care based on need.
