two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The project seeks to redevelop and improve Rottenrow Gardens to provide publicly accessible open space with improved connectivity. The proposals include, however, are not limited to, provision of:
- The development of an improved public space, and ‘pedestrian-first’ connectivity at the heart of the University of Strathclyde campus in Glasgow city centre;
- The ‘stopping-up’ (de-adoption) and pedestrianisation of Rottenrow, North Portland Street, and Richmond Street, including landscaping, public realm works, and parking reconfiguration (including parking, and EV charging points), and associated infrastructure;
- Improved universal access, and regrading of the gardens;
- A new east-west covered walkway providing shelter and shade;
- Increased / improved seating, and event space;
- Improved security in the space with improved sightlines, wayfinding, and CCTV coverage; and
- Extensive planting and tree work to improve health, wellbeing, and biodiversity; rain gardens for improved surface water management.
