two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The University of Sheffield (UoS) with funding from European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is establishing a Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre (SAF-IC) to support and promote the production and characterisation of decarbonised and sustainable aviation fuel. To broaden and support our extensive research, development, and deployment activities at the centre, we are looking to procure a bespoke Aviation Fuel Thermal Stability Test Unit.
The aim of the test facility proposed in this document is to be used for testing aviation fuels by subjecting these under appropriate temperature, pressure and flow conditions, as experienced in aviation gas turbine engines. This type of facility has been previously ran by the Sheffield team since the early 2000's, and undertaken a significant redesign and rebuild around 2014. With this work, we are now looking at building the next iteration of this design. It is expected that tenderers consider their own designs that may bring any improvements to the current design and subsequently propose these for discussion. All of the control and
data acquisition software has already been developed and tested extensively by Sheffield so it is expected that this will be used in the new test rig.
