Our Vision

Stockport crematorium has served the Community since 1934 and has created an environment that is respectful, fitting and dignified so that families who live within the Borough and surrounding areas can say goodbye to their loved ones.

We pride ourselves on the Community focussed service that we provide which includes various ways of commemorating loved ones, choosing appropriate memorialisation and providing flexible funeral times including weekends.

Collaboration with Friends of the Cemeteries groups as well as working in partnership with Stepping Hill Hospital, our local Funeral Directors, SANDS, Adult Care, HM Coronial Service and faith groups ensures that we drive and deliver quality services which are appropriate and meet the needs of our communities.

We want to make sure we are providing a modern and responsive service that makes use of technology to provide the best possible experience for families and others involved in the bereavement process while ensuing this aligns to the ambition, values and environmental priorities of SMBC.

Purpose

Stockport MBC’s crematorium & burial administration contract comes to an end in March 2023. The current service delivery model is split between 2 organisations, with an external contractor managing the administration of the service as well as the operation of Stockport Crematorium, whilst SMBC staff manage the operation of the rest of the cemeteries across the Borough.

As we continually strive to deliver the best service possible for the residents of Stockport and the surrounding areas, we would now like to combine all the aspects of the service in to one single amalgamated delivery model.
