two.2.4) Description of the procurement

CalMac Ferries Limited (CFL) are proposing to introduce use of a diesel fuel additive to reduce emissions and diesel fuel consumption. Given the nascent state of this market and the types of products available, along with ensuring any product does not impact on vessel reliability, potential suppliers will be required to provide trial data (of use in ‘real-world’ diesel engines) and evidence of current, active, use of the additive in a heavy (bulk fuel) diesel transport environment. This Prior Information Notice is to establish products available on the market that would achieve this. The product specification is to be a combination of a Fuel Borne Catalyst (FBC) based on Cerium Oxide with the addition of a deposit control additive (DCA). Suppliers should record their interest and should they do so they will be contacted to provide the following:

- Details of chemical makeup of the product, details of the active ingredients and method of chemical reaction / action that provides the benefits

- Full details of ‘real-world’ trial data (outside a laboratory) including method of trial, type of engine utilised, type of vessel (or other heavy transport vehicle), results of trial including evidence of emissions reductions and fuel consumption reduction

- Details of current market use and market experience in active heavy diesel transport vehicles (Marine or similar)
