six.3) Additional information

It is necessary to modify the existing term after the extension period that ends in November 2025, by a further 24 months, until November 2027. This extension will run alongside the implementation of a new commercial transplantation system by the Welsh Blood Service and will support the organisational need to ensure that the Service remains in control and safe from a regulatory and Welsh population health perspective, in the delivery of key blood components and transplantation results, to the patients of Wales. The modification will provide sufficient time for the required procurement to be progressed and for essential maintenance to be undertaken. It will also allow the resource expertise to be available and engaged in a safe way, recognising the major implementation of the new transplantation system also.

seven.2.1) Description of the modifications

Nature and extent of the modifications (with indication of possible earlier changes to the contract):

It is necessary to modify the existing term after the extension period that ends in November 2025 by a further 24 months until November 2027, which will run alongside the implementation of a new commercial Transplantation system.

Need for modification brought about by circumstances which a diligent contracting authority/entity could not foresee.

Description of the circumstances which rendered the modification necessary and explanation of the unforeseen nature of these circumstances:

The organisation needs to ensure that the Service remains in control and safe from a regulatory and Welsh population health perspective, in the delivery of key blood components and the transplantation results, to the patients of Wales. This modification will provide sufficient time for the required procurement to be progressed and essential maintenance to be undertaken.

It will also allow the resource expertise to be available and engaged in a safe way, recognising the implementation of the new transplantation system.
