two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The overarching aim is to stimulate improvements in care for children and young people receiving care for seizures and epilepsies by measuring variations in quality, experience and outcomes of NHS care in England and Wales. During this contract period, the successful tenderer will need to build on the achievements of the audit to date and enhance the ability for the audit to be used for healthcare improvement.
Data is most useful locally for healthcare improvement when its provision to clinical teams is timely, the data is refreshed regularly and appropriate tools, support and guidance accompany the data outputs. The intent is for all of these features of the audit to be implemented and improved during the period of this contract.
The NCASECYP data driven healthcare quality improvement 3 year aims are to support:
• demonstrable reductions in time taken to receive an electroencephalogram (EEG) test to under 4 weeks of referral in 90%
• demonstrable increases in being seen by a paediatrician with expertise in epilepsy within 2 weeks of first referral in 90%
• an increase in:
- updated and agreed comprehensive care plan to 100%
- Trusts and Health Boards who have formal screening in their paediatric epilepsy service for mental health and learning disability needs, with subsequent referrals and/or action if appropriate to above 90%
- first year of care referrals for those who may benefit from epilepsy-based surgeries to 90%
- Trusts and Health Boards using structured resources to support patient transitions to adult service to 100%.
The audit supplier will work with commissioners and funders to create a coherent strategy for how the improvement goals listed above, or similar, will support the organisations in the CYP epilepsy care pathway to try and achieve them.
