The service will provide support for children, young people, parents, and carers with children from 0 to 18 years old. It will also provide practical and emotional support to pregnant women who need additional support in relation to preparing for motherhood. The aim of the service is to provide early help to support children to remain within their families wherever possible by working with parents and carers to improve their ability to meet all their children’s needs. If this is achieved, parents and carers will be empowered to manage their parental responsibilities without the need for statutory Social Work intervention in their lives. Services to be provided include support with practical parenting skills, child development, routines/boundaries, behaviour management, emotional support, and community engagement. The service will be flexible to provide support when children, young people, parents, and carers require this support, which is likely to include evenings and weekends. Referrals to this service will come directly from Statutory Social Work services.

This service will screen, signpost and/or provide a flexible range of supports to families requesting early help. This service will primarily take referrals from families and other professionals and will be able to respond to need timeously and flexibly. The range of supports should be based on whole family wellbeing, early intervention and prevention which help families meet their individual needs and avoid crisis. The service will provide support for children, young people, parents, and carers with children from pre-birth to 18 years old. Services to be provided include assessing need, signposting to other relevant agencies and/or supporting engagement other relevant services, support with practical parenting skills, budgeting and finance, routines, and boundaries. Support should fit the identified needs of the family, and therefore should be responsive to their needs, and this may include the need to be available evenings and weekends. Wherever possible, support should be provided within the family’s own community.
