The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) – this is a statutory concessionary travel scheme mandated by the Department for Transport (DfT). The Council manages and administers this scheme which provides free bus travel in England for the elderly and people with mobility difficulties that meet the national scheme criteria. The Council also offers non-statutory free travel on Nottingham’s tram system and companion cards to disabled people that meet the companion criteria. The scheme uses ITSO technology (mandated by the DfT for all ENCTS schemes) to ensure interoperability of cards and readers between all the local authorities in England managing the ENCTS scheme.

The Robin Hood Smart Ticketing Scheme – the Council manages and administers this scheme on behalf of the Robin Hood Operators Group (RHOG). The RHOG consists of all bus operators serving the Greater Nottingham area, Nottingham Express Transit (NET) trams, East Midlands Railway, Nottinghamshire County Council and the City Council. The scheme provides several different product types (Season, Pay As You Go and Flexible Days) of travel and offers a retail network of a Travel Centre, over 130 on street ticket machines, all tram ticket machines, web and mobile phone systems with which to purchase and top up Robin Hood card.

The Council also manages the multi-operator ‘Nottingham Contactless’ Scheme that allows public transport users to make contactless payments using a contactless bank card or mobile phone app. Current participating operators are NCT, NET and the Linkbus network operated by CT4N, with the ambition being for other operators to be included in the scheme in the near future.
