Haddenham Parish Council (in Buckinghamshire) has a three main ponds (with more to adopt in future years) which require ongoing maintenance. The ponds are a beautiful feature of the village and are home to lots of wildlife including water fowl. The maintenance of these ponds would include monitoring of water purity levels, weed management and landscaping to ensure the ponds remain in a healthy condition and continue to be an attractive asset of the village.
The Council wishes to work in collaboration with a company / organisation who can demonstrate experience with pond management. Haddenham Parish Council has declared a climate emergency, so it is important that your organisation has sound bio-diversity principals in the use of pesticides etc.

HADDENHAM POND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT
PRE-QUALIFICATION AND TENDER PROCESS
This is an opportunity to tender for the provision of Pond maintenance services within the parish of Haddenham, on behalf of the Parish Council. The Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance of three ponds within the parish. The ponds are an integral part of the parish identity and are home to wildlife including water fowl.
Haddenham is an ancient settlement with links back to the Doomsday. It has grown over the years and now encompasses a large conservation area, a nature reserve and many other amenities. The village is currently undergoing significant growth due to its designation as a strategic settlement within the district's local plan. The Parish Council has made a commitment to adopt, and take responsibility for, new community facilities which includes the formation of future ponds and to maintain these for the benefit the whole community.
The maintenance will vary as governed by the seasons and weather conditions.
Main areas of responsibility
• Monthly water testing
• Resolve any issues from water testing using organic treatments and methods to ensure water clarity and manage nitrate, chlorine, ammonia build up.
• Remove and organically treat build-up of duck weed (another surface weed) and algae.
• Ensuring any litter or obstructions are removed from the ponds.
• Landscaping and the management of vegetation around and within the pond.
• Managing the biodiversity of the ponds to maintain the health and appearance of the ponds.
• Silt removal as necessary.
Climate Emergency and Biodiversity
The Parish Council has declared a climate emergency and is working with its existing contractor to support biodiversity through careful management of its land. It is expected that this will expand and improve in the future, and will involve working alongside local volunteers.
About you
You will be an established pond maintenance contractor with experience of public sector / community work. You will need excellent recent, relevant references and have an impeccable health and safety record. Insurance requirements are £10m Employer's and £10m Public Liability.

Quality assurance and commitment to improve the environment will also be given additional weighting. Contractors will need to demonstrate their commitment to local priorities and community involvement, ideally being based in within the local area.
