This is an opportunity to tender for the provision of Pond maintenance services within the parish of Haddenham, on behalf of the Parish Council. The Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance of three ponds within the parish. The ponds are an integral part of the parish identity and are home to wildlife including water fowl.

Haddenham is an ancient settlement with links back to the Doomsday. It has grown over the years and now encompasses a large conservation area, a nature reserve and many other amenities. The village is currently undergoing significant growth due to its designation as a strategic settlement within the district's local plan. The Parish Council has made a commitment to adopt, and take responsibility for, new community facilities which includes the formation of future ponds and to maintain these for the benefit the whole community.

The maintenance will vary as governed by the seasons and weather conditions.

Main areas of responsibility

• Monthly water testing

• Resolve any issues from water testing using organic treatments and methods to ensure water clarity and manage nitrate, chlorine, ammonia build up.

• Remove and organically treat build-up of duck weed (another surface weed) and algae.

• Ensuring any litter or obstructions are removed from the ponds.

• Landscaping and the management of vegetation around and within the pond.

• Managing the biodiversity of the ponds to maintain the health and appearance of the ponds.

• Silt removal as necessary.

Climate Emergency and Biodiversity

The Parish Council has declared a climate emergency and is working with its existing contractor to support biodiversity through careful management of its land. It is expected that this will expand and improve in the future, and will involve working alongside local volunteers.
