two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The supplier would be required to:
• Seek examples of good practice among NHS ED services in training peer support workers, take the best of this and improve it where necessary, and create a high quality 5-day course providing people with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate as a peer support worker in any CEDS setting. This course would include pre-recorded sessions but would also require live delivery. It would be supported by access to a weekly community of practice over Zoom facilitated by an experienced clinician.
• Deliver two pilots of the basic course, via Zoom or equivalent, evaluating and reviewing the content and approach as necessary after each. Deliver 1 basic course per year for 2 consecutive years beginning in year 22/23.
• Use the providers helpline team to deliver the guided self-help programmes, so creating a 5-day training course which could be delivered live to the PSWs who have attended the basic 5-day training.
• Deliver two pilots of the GSH training, via Zoom or equivalent, evaluating and reviewing the content and approach as necessary after each.
• Deliver training thereafter to peer support workers in cohorts of 12 per course, via Zoom or equivalent. Deliver 1 course per year for 2 consecutive years beginning in year 22/23.
• Develop a 1.5 day supervisor training course to ensure that relevant NHS staff are fully able to provide supervision to peer support workers once they are actively employed by the ED services.
• Deliver one course to a cohort of up to 10 supervisors identified by the ED services. These will be people who are already competent in supervision with experience of supervising peer support workers or lived experience workers. One year only.
• Provide a community of practice over Zoom facilitated by an experienced clinician, available to peer support workers and supervisors on alternate weeks.
• Recruit and employ a Coordinator to project manage and ensure the effective delivery and evaluation of this project, including outreach to services to encourage buy-in from services and, as needed, to support PSW recruitment, roll out of the approach to other NHSE regions, etc. the Coordinator is employed on a 0.6 FTE basis;
• Provider to provide at least 6 Lived Experience Volunteers from the South West region. These volunteers are to be available to support engagement opportunities in the region. Acceptance of these opportunities would be at the discretion of the individual volunteers.
