The National Library of Scotland is seeking to carry out the following works at its Causewayside building at 33 Salisbury Place, Edinburgh:
Remove the existing smoke extract system.
Form new smoke extract shafts.
Install a new smoke extract system
Associated AHU upgrades and damper replacement.
We are seeking feedback from the industry to determine market interest with regards to the procurement of this regulated works contract of circa 5M GBP (excluding vat)
Information provided in response to the RFI will be used in the development of the procurement strategy(s) and determining the scope, ensuring that any procurement route either “Open” or “Restricted” subsequently selected is attractive to the marketplace and provide a competitive tendering environment for the delivery of the requirement.
No single response will define the procurement strategy in totality, responses will however be used to inform the approach to market.
It is the sole discretion of the Library to use or disregard information, comments etc. provided in respect of any response and or future correspondence when compiling tender documentation.
This RFI summaries certain aspects of the scope of requirement and potential tender exercise(s).

SCOPE OF WORKS (High level)
The National Library of Scotland is seeking to carry out the following works at its Causewayside building at 33 Salisbury Place, Edinburgh:
Remove the existing smoke extract system.
Form new smoke extract shafts.
Install a new smoke extract system
Associated AHU upgrades and damper replacement.
Causewayside is the Library’s largest property. It comprises 19,168m2 over 7 levels, two of which are below ground. It is predominantly used for environmentally controlled collection storage; however, it also accommodates approx. 80 staff and a public reading room. The building will be operational during the works and the National Collections will remain in-situ. As a result, possession will be given to the Contractor floor by floor starting from the roof. The works, including protection and dust monitoring, will be completed and commissioned before progressing to the next floor, with final commissioning on completion of all floors.
The following works will be Contractor Design:
The smoke Extract installation,
Detailed design for opening and upstands, forms roof opening and upstands (inc all weather proofing),
Detailed design for louvres, remove existing cladding panels, installs louvres into the cladding (inc all weather proofing).

It is estimated that any future tender arising in relation to this particular opportunity is anticipated to be published late Spring / Early Summer 2023 with an award in December 2023, mobilisation January 2024 through to March 2024 and start on site April 2024.
