two.1.4) Short description
The Regional Molecular Diagnostics Service (RMDS) formally Regional Genetics Laboratories has been collecting and storing patient records and DNA stock samples since the late 1980's as a service laboratory. The guidance from the Royal College of Pathologists on the retention and storage of pathological records and specimens (see attached) states that records including but not limited to laboratory file cards, working records, test results, records of telephoned or physical reports should be retained for 30 years or more.
These records are required to answer potential legal queries as the level of service provided and extent of analysis performed continues to rapidly evolve with the technology available within any given service to perform the requested analysis.
two.1.6) Information about lots

two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The RMDS service has an ongoing patient care responsibility for individuals with complex personal phenotypes which is suggestive of a genetic contribution. The patient phenotype may evolve over time as they move from infancy to adulthood and hence the patient may require multiple analyses over many years or decades often returning to stored DNA stocks provided by the patient.
In addition the multi-generational nature of genetic studies in families who have a pathogenic variant or variants identified in successful historic analysis which may be unique to the family under RMDS care makes the use of variant control samples sourced from consented family members essential.
Hence access to patient records via an accurate data repository represents a major patient safety issue to meet the Royal College guidance, allow patient record identification and location of stock DNA resources as required.
As part of the Core LIMS project, data migration is required by RMDS to transfer data from their existing Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), STARLIMS, into the new LIMS being delivered by the project for the above reasons.
two.2.11) Information about options
Options: No

As the current LIMS being used by the Regional Molecular Diagnostics Service (RMDS) is a bespoke solution there is no option to approach other providers to carry out the work.
