Single supplier - technical reasons

A market review of methane sniffer technologies was conducted in September 2025. The assessment focused on commercially available systems at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 9, suitable for deployment in commercial farm environments. Essential requirements being

• Accuracy and repeatability of gas measurements

• Dust and water resistance at IP65 and durability for operation in dairy housing environments

• Proven temperature range operational stability for UK farm setups

• Low maintenance burden and minimal need for operational recalibration

• Online technical support for operational and software queries

• Remote monitoring capability to enable continuous data collection and integration

The products to be purchased are determined to be the only option meeting the full set of essential requirements tested and proven as suitable for use in the applicable harsh environments of cattle sheds with appropriate operating resistance to water and dust
