Description
Islington Council is seeking to engage with suitably qualified providers for statutory mortuary services. This engagement aims to inform the Council’s approach to market and ensure service continuity in line with legal obligations.
Scope of Services
The requirement includes:
• Secure storage of deceased persons
• Post-mortem facilities
• Associated liaison and support services for H.M. Coroner
The Council proposes that facilities are located within close proximity to the borough (ideally within 3 miles of Islington Town Hall) to help minimise distress for bereaved families and enable timely examinations.
Statutory Context
These services are essential to meet obligations under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 and to support the Coroner’s statutory functions.
Provider Expectations
Interested organisations should be able to demonstrate:
• Compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and Human Tissue Authority standards
• Robust data protection and confidentiality measures
