Engagement process description
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) are looking to conduct preliminary market engagement in advance of a future procurement exercise to appoint a contractor for a complex refurbishment project with the UKHSA Porton site, which houses high-containment laboratories, offices and corridors.
The scope of this project includes:
- Replacement of approximately 4km of supply and extract ductwork.
- Installation of new Air Handling Units (AHUs) and extract fans.
- Removal and disposal of asbestos contaminated ductwork (notifiable asbestos work).
- Associated works including the replacement of doors, windows, fire access doors, corridor panelling, riser firestopping, and other related items.
The key challenges for this requirement are:
- Working within high-containment laboratory environments with strict biosafety protocols.
- Coordination around live services to maintain operational continuity.
- Compliance with asbestos regulations and robust health and safety standards.
