Single supplier - technical reasons

In October 2022 a contract was awarded as the result of a competitive tender for the manufacture, assembly, testing, inspection and supply of 9 sets of skips, furniture, 85 off 6" cans and 54 spacers that are a pre-requisite to the dry shipment of Breeder Fuel from Dounreay to Sellafield Limited for long term storage.

At the time of award of this contract, the supply chain had not been successful in manufacturing the furniture due to extremely tight design tolerances. Through collaboration and a protracted manufacturing phase between the successful supplier, NRS Dounreay and Sellafield Limited, the furniture sets have now been successfully manufactured.

There is now a requirement for 4-off additional sets of skips, furniture and the associated cans and spacers.

The supplier from the original contract now has the technical knowledge to manufacture the additional Flask Furniture sets to the extremely tight design tolerances.
