Scope
Description
Sterile Connection Devices (SCDs) are essential for Blood Services to produce a wide range of blood components. Their use allows the sterile connection of blood packs and consumables, negating the use of a clean room. SCDs are used to connect ancillary packs to primary components to allow the manufacture of secondary components (washed red cells or platelets), in the production of pooled components (platelets, granulocytes and cryoprecipitate) and to manufacture neonatal split components (red cells, plasma and platelets). SCD's are also used during bacterial screening & Quality Monitoring Sampling and in areas outside of blood supply such as Tissue Services, Cellular and Molecular Therapy (CMT).
