Single supplier - technical reasons
The Leksell Vantage frame is essential for stereotactic neurosurgical procedures at NHNN as it is the only product that meets the specific clinical and technical requirements of the service. This minimally invasive specialty requires extreme precision to localise and treat very small targets deep within the brain.
The Vantage frame uniquely enables intraoperative MRI and CT scanning and provides sub-millimetre accuracy. Having multiple different systems in situ would present significant clinical risk (due to different workflows), inequality of service delivery (patients receiving varying levels of accuracy), and increased governance risk.
The Vantage frame also facilitates easier anaesthesia, improves communication during awake neurosurgical procedures, and allows the patients' head and frame to remain mobile during surgery under local anaesthetic - directly improving patient safety and experience.
The Leksell Vantage solution has a proven international track record and is supported by extensive published evidence demonstrating successful outcomes in DBS surgery. It is the only solution fully integrated with Trust MRI and CT scanners, ensuring seamless operation within the current infrastructure. It is also compatible with existing stereotactic accessories, arc systems, planning software, and other non-sterile workflow components.
Remaining with a single, standardised platform will minimise training requirements, reduce procedural errors, and support higher surgical throughput, ensuring the service can continue to run safely and efficiently.
