Explanation:
Switchgear has been identified as being at high risk of failure, the impact of which could pose a very serious health & safety risk hazard and catastrophic damage to the University’s Estate. Due to the nature of the failure, urgent works are required to replace the existing VMX high voltage switchgear identified as being at risk. A specialist contractor suitably experienced in this type of works was required to be appointed urgently and did not provide sufficient time to undertake a competitive tender process. An NCA was the only option to enable the appointment and work to mitigate the risk.
