Description
Dewsbury Market and Town Park is a prestigious project at the centre of Dewsbury Blueprint Town Centre regeneration plan, to develop and enhance cultural, leisure, retail and green spaces for local communities and visitors. The aspiration is to create a sustainable environment that will improve town centre usage, increase dwell time, support the surrounding retail activity and connectivity.
This project will see the refurbishment of the existing Edwardian Market Hall and Semi-covered Market as well as a new public realm space consisting of a flexible Outdoor Events Space and a Town Park.
The site covers approximately 9,980sqm, split into different zones.
• Market Hall will become an enclosed retail space to allow daytime into evening usage.
• Semi-covered Market will become an enclosed space with new internal dry goods stalls.
• Outdoor Market is fully flexible hard surface space for pop-up markets and events.
• Town Park - an open space with a range of planting and seating areas, proposed water feature and Children's Play area.
Subject to final specification tender documentation - The works will be carried out broadly comprise of the following:
1. Demolition of existing external market buildings
Demolitions of the existing outdoor market stalls
Demolitions of the existing toilet blocks & market offices - stone materials to be retained and re-used
2. Indoor Market (Historical Building of Significance)
Structure and fabric repairs, restoration and new works to main market hall
Alterations, refurbishment and fitting out main market hall (generally internal)
3. Semi Cover Market
Demolitions, alterations, refurbishment, and reconfiguration of the existing semi covered market
4. Outdoor Market
Creation of new outdoor paved trading & events area.
5. New Buildings
Substation & Pump House - for the water feature
6. Service Yard
Refurbishment of the waste management area
7. New Town Park & Public Realm
New Park, Play Area, Water Feature
Hard & Soft Landscaping including HVM requirements
