Direct award justification

Single supplier - technical reasons

The contracting authority justifies the direct award pursuant to Schedule 5, clause 6(a) and 6(b) of the new Procurement Act 2023. The requirement can only be provided by a specific operator as competition is absent for technical reasons. No other reasonable alternative exists for this requirement.

The Leksell Vantage frame is required for neurosurgery and is the only product that meets specific clinical needs. Stereotactic neurosurgery is a minimally invasive neurosurgical specialty that is used to localize and treat the smallest targets deep inside the brain. The Leksell Vantage frame allows intraoperative MRI and CT scanning and uses a Vernier scale which gives sub millimeter accuracy (< 0.9 mm), it is used for therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including biopsies, placement of electrodes for deep brain stimulation (DBS), injections, aspirations and lesioning.

The Vantage frame has a unique face design which makes it much easier to anaesthetise the patient and to communicate with the patient during awake procedures like treatment of movement disorders.

Leksell Vantage solution has a proven track record and global familiarity with widespread use with extensive published outcomes for DBS procedures. Compatible with a huge range of legacy stereotactic accessories, arc systems and planning software.

The solution integrates with Trust MRI and CT scanners.

The purchase of the frames includes comprehensive service and maintenance contract for the full 5 years.
