NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board (ICB) is seeking the views of Healthcare Providers in relation to the provision of Sussex Wheelchair Service and East Sussex Specialist Postural Static Seating Service to a population of patients. The Commissioner is considering a contract period of between five and seven years, this remains subject to finalisation.
The overarching aim of the service is to enable service users to optimise their mobility, independence, and quality of life through timely access to appropriate assessment, provision, and maintenance of equipment.
This will be a unified wheelchair service operating across Sussex, providing a consistent, high-quality, and equitable offer to all eligible individuals. The service will ensure prompt access to care and equipment, underpinned by clear system-wide oversight of performance and outcomes.
The successful provider will be empowered to act as a lead purchaser in Sussex, with the opportunity to leverage significant buying power to secure value for money from suppliers and subcontractors.
In addition, the service will deliver specialist postural static seating for adults in East Sussex, meeting the same standards of clinical quality, consistency, and innovation as the wider wheelchair provision.
The ICB is interested to hear the views of Providers on the proposed service model.
It is anticipated that the new service will be procured via a standard NHS contract with a contract duration of initially 5 years plus the option to extend by a further 2 years, commencing 1st April 2027.
Estimated contract value = £43,285,714 for 5 years
Option to extend = £17,314,285 for 2 years
Total contract value = £60,600,000 for 7 years
