NDA is a non-departmental public body charged, on behalf of government, with the mission to clean-up the UK's earliest nuclear sites safely, securely and cost effectively. Maentwrog Hydroelectric Power Station ("Maentwrog") is a 28MW hydroelectric plant owned by NDA and operated by Magnox Limited ("Magnox").
The NDA is seeking to engage with economic operators obtain feedback regardinf a forthcoming tender to appoint an economic operator to deliver energy generation and trading optimisation services for the NDA's Maentwrog Hydropower station asset. The core service to be delivered includes, but is not limited to the provision of trading available energy generation capacity within the wholesale market, based upon fundamental and technical analysis, market expertise and available generation capacity based upon water volumes, rainfall and available measurements within defined operational parameters.
The aim of this procurement is to increase income generation to support the NDA in delivering it's mission.
It is anticipated that the agreement may be based upon a 2 year initial term with 2 twelve month optional extensions.
It is anticipated that the total value of the contract will be range between £253,000.00 and £706,000.00 for the initial term, subject to trading performance and wholesale market trends. There are indicative projections which allow for contract values to £1,100,000.00 for the total 4 year opportunity and allowing for significant income growth from the awarded party.
NDA have previously engaged the market for this requirement via a Prior Information Notice (reference 2023/S 000-031237) in October 2024. This notice is a continuation of this engagement following further development of requirements and internal assurance and governance processes.
Due to the nature of the activity, the tender will include a mandatory requirement for economic operators to hold or have access to an OFGEM energy supply license to enable the delivery of the services within their organisation.
It is the intention of the NDA to proceed to tender this requirement in Q4 2025 following further market feedback from this engagement activity.
As part of the engagement process, NDA will seek feedback relating to the scope of services, commercial model and anticipated key terms and conditions of contract for the purpose of feedback to ensure the opportunity is appropriate and attractive to the market.
Sharing of information and feedback will be facilitated via the Atamis procurement portal, however NDA reserve the right to change the format of communication with parties who register interest to Teleconference where relevant and appropriate to expedite the process.
