This demand issue has been compounded by increased gaps in the consultant workforce that have presented a challenge to cover both short and long-term. This has resulted in prioritising our available resource on ensuring patient safety, urgent trauma and cancer pathways.

The risk to elective patients, with the current available resource, requires the urgent intervention of additional clinical capacity to prevent deterioration of our existing position and ensure patient safety. Therefore we require urgent insourcing provision to mitigate this risk.
