The London Borough of Camden (‘the Council’) is seeking to award contracts for the The Community Champions programme that builds on the strengths, skills and knowledge of local communities, by recruiting local people as volunteers to tackle inequalities, improve health and wellbeing and address local issues of concern.
The model is simple: in each of the five areas a local community organisation (or collaboration), which could be VCS, faith organisation or a school, with strong connections to the specific neighbourhoods, hosts a paid staff member (‘community organiser’) for three years.
The Community Champions Co-ordinators will recruit volunteers (community champions) directly from the area where the project is based. The five (5) organisers, whilst working for different community organisations and in geographically separate areas form a team to build a community of practice, share learning and start to build a wider movement of volunteers.
The programme consists of five (5) lots, one per neighbourhood.
The Council endeavours to secure value for money for all contracts. To support this programme, the maximum budget for this project across all five (5) lots for the entire 3 years is £900,000 excluding VAT which is £300,000 per year (£60,000 per neighbourhood).
