Description

Birmingham City Council (the Council) is seeking to appoint an organisation for the provision of Dudley Road, Soho & Jewellery Quarter Highway Works.

The form of contract will be an NEC4 Option A. The works will commence on 3rd November 2025 and will be in place for an estimated period of 6 months.

The A457 Dudley Road scheme is a major highway intervention along a key arterial corridor in Birmingham. The scheme objectives are focused on improving journey times, reducing congestion, enhancing public transport and active modes along the corridor to align with the local, regional and national sustainable transport objectives.

Phase 4 will provide the "missing link" to the segregated cycleway through the frontage of City Hospital and Birmingham Treatment Centre (BTC) and deliver improved accessibility for pedestrians.

The scope of the works includes:

• Construction of a new two-way segregated cycle path running parallel to Dudley Road between Aberdeen Street and Western Road through the frontages of the former City Hospital and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB-NHS) treatment Centre facility.

• Re-configuration of the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB-NHS) treatment Centre car park for optimum use and to accommodate the alignment of the new cycle path

• Alterations and provision of drainage for the new highway alignment of the new cycle lane

• Protection / diversion of utility services to facilitate the construction of the new cycle lane alignment

• Provision of new street lighting for the cycle lane within the newly created Highway extents

• Closure of the existing City Hospital entrance to Dudley Road, with the conversion of carriageway to shared use cycle / footway

• Installation of a Bus Lane Enforcement Camera on the Highway on Dudley Road near to the old entrance to the City Hospital and Birmingham Treatment Centre to enforce existing bus lanes.

• Alterations to the position of the existing bus stop / shelter located on Dudley Road outside of the Birmingham Treatment Centre.

• Provision of suitable traffic management measures to maintain pedestrian access to the Birmingham Treatment Centre throughout the construction works.

• Protection of existing mature trees within the works boundary throughout the construction works.

• Proactive engagement with stakeholders, example; adjacent landowners SWB-NHS and Homes England
