Contract for the Supply of Bio-mass Fuel. The Office for National Statistics' (ONS) property in Newport have two Endress USF-W Biomass Boilers 1Mw in output which use wood pellets.
The units were installed and commissioned in 2010. ONS would only use gas as a temporary back up in the absence of an adequate wood supply. The boilers are fed from two 30 tonne capacity wood silos.

The units were installed and commissioned in 2010. ONS would only use gas as a temporary back up in the absence of an adequate wood supply. The boilers are fed from two 30 tonne capacity wood silos.
The heating season runs from the 1st October to the 30th April. Historic consumption figures indicate that ONS use 200-400 tonnes of pellet per annum, 30-60 tonne per month dependent upon weather conditions.

Explanation:
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) are seeking to increase the extension available with Balcas for a period of 3 months until 30 April 2025 increasing the contract value by £30,000.
ONS' existing contract with Balcas expires on 31 January 2025 and the current National Fuels 2 Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Framework is due to expire imminently. Extending the existing contract by 3 months will allow ONS to re-procure through the Summer months utilising the new CCS National Fuels 3 Framework. It is anticipated there will be a broader range of suppliers on the new framework and appetite for longer contract terms.
