two.1.4) Short description

a multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS). A MC-ICP-MS can measure the concentration of elements in a sample, using multiple detectors to achieve state-of-the art levels of precisions.

MC-ICP-MS will be a new and unique facility utilising expertise in stable and radioactive isotope ratio measurements in a joint laboratory shared across Groups at the UKs National Measurement Institute. This would lead to a significant expansion to NPLs ICP-MS capabilities compared to current capabilities, building on close collaborations established with academics, radioanalytical laboratories, Government and industrial end users in the UK, as well as international research programmes and International Standards committees. This new capability would also develop new collaborations such as for geological dating and paleoclimate measurements.
