Equipment was purchased due to obsolescence issues experienced with the existing MK2 N-visage unit. Unavailability of the gamma imaging system could have significant impact to site characterisation delivery therefore Mk3 N-Visage Gamma Imaging System was procured.

Explanation:

The procurement of Mk3 Gamma Imaging Systems enables continuity of service for Sellafield's characterisation delivery and removes technical obsolescence issues with the existing Mk2 Gamma Imaging System. The N-Visage Scanner is the only instrument which meets Sellafield's requirements for restricted access through camera inspection ports when delivering site radiometrics characterisation work.

Direct Award utilising Regulation 32 (2) (b) (ii) of the Public Contract Regulations 2015 (PCR) due to competition absent for technical reasons.
