Explanation:

The University of York is planning to host its next High Performance Computing facility (HPC) in EcoDataCenter in Falun, Sweden for the next 5 years.

The current HPC facility, hosted in Leeds, is reaching the end of its life. The University now wishes to purchase a replacement facility, taking advantage of the latest technology.

The University is committed to environmental sustainability. This HPC facility needs to be located in a data centre where sustainability is a core principle in its operations. The Falun data centre is unique. It is climate-positive, where everything from construction and tillage to technology selection to energy supply and energy recovery is designed to contribute to a below zero CO₂ footprint (where the value of the emissions avoided exceeds the total emissions generated).
