two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The confocal microscope system is intended to provide the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge with a high-frame-rate multi-channel fluorescence imaging system capable of depth-resolved imaging whilst blocking out-of-focus fluorescence emission that is optimised for live sample imaging (minimised photo-bleaching and photo-toxicity).

The system shall be capable of multi-channel fluorescence imaging of, live prokaryotes, live cultured cells, motile live cells, freely moving small model organisms and of live tissue explants.

LMB requires a ‘latest generation’ and ‘small footprint’ instrument that offers state-of-the-art imaging performance as benchmarked against our existing spinning disk confocal microscope. A maintenance contract (parts and labour) should be detailed in years 3, 4 and 5 after successful installation following the expiry of the requested 2-year warranty period.
